We have all, at some point, heard of this term: "nutritional supplement," but what is it really? Join us and learn about it.
A nutritional supplement is a complementary food product, that is intended to enhance and/or compensate for the presence or absence of any nutrient in your diet. It usually contains one or more food ingredients such as proteins, vitamins, minerals, amino acids, fatty acids and enzymes. A nutritional supplement has several types, but mainly has 2 origins: natural and synthetic.
According to their origin, nutritional supplements are divided into two categories: natural and synthetic. The natural ones, as their name indicates, are of natural origin, typical of nature, present in different types of food inputs, such as maca. Synthetics, on the other hand, are supplements made in a laboratory, which emulate the characteristics and benefits of natural nutritional supplements.
There are several popular beliefs about nutritional supplements. One of them is that after a certain age, supplements are necessary to keep the body healthy. However, the truth is that not everyone needs to take them. If a person is healthy, maintaining good living habits will be enough to keep that same condition. But if a person has a deficiency or needs a nutrient to feel better, for whatever reason, a doctor might consider prescribing a particular supplement for some time.
All supplements provide health benefits to a greater or lesser extent, as long as they are consumed in the right quantity for your diet.
